What to Expect

Expect to Be Hypnotised

When it comes to hypnosis, your expectation tends to end up your reality. When somebody expects it not to work, often it doesn’t. They end up resisting, fearing or sabotaging themselves. The reverse is also true. If you expect it to work, it is amazing what the mind can do. You simply have to want it, expect it and let yourself experience it.

Expect to Feel Safe and Secure

Hypnosis is not mind control! You cannot be made to do anything contrary to your morals and believes, and if were pushed to do something untoward, you will simply ignore the suggestion or snap out of hypnosis and it is doubtful that you will let that person hypnotise you again. With a recording you can resist going into hypnosis and listen carefully to what is suggested, so that the next time you listen, you can really let go and fully enjoy the experience of hypnotic bliss.

Expect to be Pleasantly Surprised

So many people come with popular misconceptions which they have picked up from the media, movies or even stories from well meaning friends. So by the time that they ready to be hypnotised they have a whole host of expectations, reservations and / or concerns. Usually the first time someone is hypnotised, they pleasantly surprised at just how gentle it is, how wonderful it feels and how much they can remember. And as all their concerns dissolve, they start to experience the benefits it offers.

Now, to the outside world, hypnosis may appear similar to ordinary sleep, but that is a common misconception and actually, the reverse happens. As you hypnotised, your mind becomes acutely focused, internally and as it does, your external bodily movements slow down. Your muscles relax and flatten and your body becomes peaceful. So although you appear asleep, you remain consciously aware and are always able to respond to questions and suggestions, albeit slightly more sluggishly. I find that when I emerge from hypnosis, I feel so well rested, the world appears clearer, sharper and more in focus. It is like a weight has been lifted. And afterwards, I have a quieter mind, less cluttered and I find it easier to focus.

Expect to Remember

Since you are not asleep when hypnotised, it is very likely that you will remember much, if not all of what was said. Usually you will be guided by the hypnotist and at the time it is easy to focus on what they saying. Because of this sometimes people are not even aware of being hypnotised and refute being so. So usually we include a convincer to demonstrate to the user that something has changed. For instance we may suggest that they cannot remember their name at that moment, and as much as they try, it just eludes them. Another popular and simple convincers, is to ask the subject how long they think they were being hypnotised for… Well, as you know the saying, “Time flies when you having fun” and this seems to be even more exaggerated when you hypnotised. I am yet to find a person who does not love being in hypnosis, once they have been successfully hypnotised before.

Expect to Learn

Hypnosis is very useful state of heightened learning and is used therapeutically, to teach the subconscious mind. The hypnotherapist doesn’t stop you from doing something, rather they provide suggestions which offer alternative understandings and behaviours. These are then practiced in the mind as a form of mental rehearsal. This offers a safe place to experience these alternatives and often allows the hypnotist to permanently update our current responses, habits and behaviours in as little as one to two sessions.
